TRANSPORTATION

You can get to Rome from big European cities by air at a fairly low price. In Rome, it is most comfortable for me to walk. The historic center is relatively small and most monuments are still not accessible by public transport. If you are planning to live on the outskirts of Rome, ideally choose a location close to the metro.

COLOSSEUM A FORUM ROMANUM

The Colosseum is perhaps the most famous symbol of Rome. It is an ancient amphitheater located in the center of the city. The Colosseum is definitely worth a visit if you appreciate the architecture of our ancestors. I’d say it’s not for everyone to go inside, because you have to get through the crowds of tourists. Next door is the Roman Forum, the original center of Rome and close to it is the Altare della Patria. We bought student tickets for 6€ (adult 21.5) at the side entrance to the Roman Forum. The ticket includes the Roman Forum, the Colosseum and the Palatine, but only for 24 hours.

Piazza Navona, Pantheon, piazza venezia aND fontana di trevi

All 4 places are close to each other. It is therefore ideal to combine them into one walk. The Trevi Fountain is worth visiting as soon as possible, due to the tourists as well as the Spanish Steps to Piazza Venezia. Then be sure to visit the iconic Pantheon, near which there is a gelateria with 150 types of ice cream – Della Palma. Piazza Navona is a square full of artists. You will find the most charming atmosphere here at dinner time.

ST. PETER'S BASIL, VATICAN AND CASTEL SANT'ANGELO

I adore the Basilica of St. Peter and the adjacent square. I’ve been to Rome about 4 times and this is one of the places I visit every time. I recommend visiting the dome, there is a view of the whole of Rome. Tickets to the Vatican are good to buy online in advance, but you can also go to the opener here. This will avoid a queue of several hours. Following Via della Conciliazione, you will reach the Castel Sant’Angelo, which seeing it from the outside is enough for me.

OTHER PLACES

I also recommend visiting the Palatine, Circo Massimo, the Holy Stairs in Piazza di San Giovanni in Laterano (stained by Christ’s blood), the Lateran Basilica, a walk around Trastevere around Ponte Cestio, Piazza del Popolo with the north gate of the city… Rome is a city of great architects. The church of Borromini is beautiful – S. Carlo alle Quatro Fontane (facade), the chapel of the Three Kings… Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers, the church of San’tAndrea al Quirinale… Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel – The Creation of Adam, The Last Judgment…
