tRANSPORTATION
The best way to get to Malta is by airplane. The airport is outside the larger cities, but you can easily reach Valletta by bus. I had a personal driver (see language course). There is an extensive bus network on the island. But don’t expect the bus to arrive on time, they usually have a long delay (if they arrive at all).
VALLETA
Valletta is the capital of Malta. It offers probably the most attractions. You won’t find much nature in Malta, it’s almost all built up. In Valletta, it is worth visiting Notre Dame Ravelin, Msida Bastion, the gardens of Villa Frere, Fort Manoel with the view of Valletta, the Basilica of Santwarju tal-Madonna tal-Karma, Triton Fountain and many churches on every corner.
GOZO AND COMINO
You can get to Gozo and Comino by boat from the Gozo channel Ferry (Gozo ferry for 5.82€ and Comino for 4.65€). Departure times are at https://www.gozochannel.com/ferry/schedule/. Gozo is a small island where it is worth seeing Ramla beach, near the former Flo Azure-I recommend buying a boat cruise or the Basilica of Ta’Pinu. Comino is being visited mainly because of the Crystal Lagoon, which is beautiful but full of people.
OTHER PLACES
The best experience for me was Ahrax (also Dragonara cave). It is a large sea cave with a window in the ceiling. We walked from the Armier stop around the nice beaches. The icing on the cake was the jump from the „ceiling“ of the cave into the sea. But after the jump, you have to go around the cave and climb the rock back. It is quite demanding, it is better to rent a kayak and sail to the cave from one of the nearby beaches. In Mosta you will find the church of the Mosta Rotunda, which is interesting for its story. During the 2nd World War, a bomb went through its ceiling, which fortunately did not explode, it is referred to as a miracle. It now contains a copy of the bomb. The „quiet town“ of Mdina, which was the capital of Malta, is also nice.
LANGUAGE COURSE IN MALTA
At the age of 18, I received a gift, an English language course in Malta, for my birthday. English is the official language here, so Malta is a great place to practice english as well as a sunny holiday. I went to the Berlitz School in St ‚Julians. I had arranged a private transport from the airport, accommodation with a local family and home-cooked meals. I lived in a room with a roommate who was also Czech. It was a great experience, Berlitz is a good language school and St ‚Julians is a great city for young students.
